Kenergy Corporation, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative in Kentucky, has released updates to their website which include a powerful new outage map. The outage map is provided by iFactor’s Storm Center product which is delivered as a completely managed service to Kenergy, offering the full power of Storm Center to Kenergy’s customers with no internal IT requirements.
This new capability helps Kenergy meet demands from their members as well as addressing objectives set by the Kentucky Public Service commission in the wake of the 2009 Ice Storm. By providing detailed outage information, the Storm Center product allows customers to quickly get information about an outage affecting their home or business through battery-powered laptops or from a friend or relatives’ home. The solution is designed for maximum scalability and security, and can handle a high volume of customer requests with no impact on Kenergy’s operational systems.
The website is automatically updated with information about individual outages as well as showing county outage maps and summary information. Each outage includes critical information including the estimated restoration time, the cause of the outage,and details about crew assignments. The system was implemented by a joint team of iFactor and Kenergy staff members in about 8 weeks. The solution will be available to Kenergy’s members as well as the media and emergency officials 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
